What are Human Factors in Aviation Maintenance?

Human factors in aviation maintenance refer to the study and understanding of how human performance, behaviour, and limitations influence maintenance activities and overall safety in the aviation industry. It recognises that human error can contribute to incidents and accidents and aims to identify and mitigate factors that can lead to errors. Human factors considerations in aviation maintenance include aspects such as workload, fatigue management, communication, training, decision-making, and human-machine interaction. By applying human factors principles, aviation maintenance organisations can design processes, procedures, and training programmes that account for human capabilities and limitations, promote effective communication and teamwork, reduce errors, and enhance overall safety and efficiency in maintenance operations.
