What is Safety Assessment of Foreign Aircraft?
Safety Assessment of Foreign Aircraft (SAFA) is a process conducted by regulatory authorities to evaluate the safety and airworthiness of aircraft registered in foreign countries when operating within their airspace. The SAFA programme involves inspections and assessments carried out on foreign aircraft to ensure compliance with international safety standards. It encompasses various aspects such as aircraft systems, maintenance records, operational procedures, and crew proficiency. The goal of SAFA is to enhance aviation safety by identifying and rectifying potential safety risks or deficiencies in foreign aircraft to ensure a consistent level of safety across international airspace.
This course is suitable for individuals who are required to undertake safety assessments of foreign aircraft within their national country. To give members of industry a better understanding of the ICAO SAFA Survey Programme, including the recording and publication of findings against foreign registered aircraft. By the end of the course delegates will have gained:
• An awareness of the reasons for and requirements of the Safety Assessment of Foreign Aircraft programme
• An understanding of the criteria used to raise and record aircraft or documentation deficiencies
Delegates should meet the eligibility criteria as specified in the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Guidance Material on Qualification of Inspectors.
