What is a Effective Problem Solving and Root Cause Identification?

An interactive two-day workshop, designed for those who need to manage, undertake or understand how to conduct effective Root Cause Identification and Problem Solving. The course will provide an overview of the regulatory framework and frequently used root cause analysis techniques. It will detail common principles for effective root cause analysis and how they are applied to real world scenarios. The delegates will practice the identification and evaluation of containment, corrective and preventive actions in response to examples of reported occurrences, internal and external findings and their root causes.  The course will detail the CAA root cause analysis methodology that is defined in  the CAA  Civil Aviation Publication CAP 1760 ‘Effective Problem Solving and Root Cause Identification’ guidance material. A case study will be used to allow participants to practice and follow this methodology.

Who should attend?

The workshop will be beneficial to Managers, Nominated Postholders, Quality, Safety and Compliance Monitoring Managers, auditors, and those who need to have the necessary competence to conduct effective root cause identification and appropriate containment, corrective and preventive actions.

The course is suitable for participants from all areas of the aviation industry, but in particular Airworthiness, Aerodromes, Air Navigation Service Providers, Flight Operations and Regulatory organisations.

  • Evaluate the appropriateness of common tools & techniques
  • Distinguish between containment, corrective and preventive actions
  • Identify human and organisational factors as part of root cause investigation and analysis
  • Introduce suitable verification strategies to ensure effective closure
  • Appreciate the time required for effective root cause identification and the implementation of containment, corrective and preventive actions
  • Appreciate the need for competent personnel to carry out root cause identification and implementation of containment, corrective and preventive actions
  • Ensure that the process is adequately documented

Prerequisites

Ideally, broad experience in the aviation industry together with an open mind to new ideas.
