Course overview

What is a Effective Problem Solving and Root Cause Identification?

A interactive two day workshop, designed for those who need to manage, undertake or understand how to conduct effective Root Cause Identification and Problem Solving. The course will provide an overview of the regulatory framework and frequently used root cause analysis techniques. Common principles for effective root cause analysis will be highlighted and applied to real world scenarios. The delegates will practice the identification and evaluation of containment, corrective and preventive actions in response to samples of reported occurrences, internal and external findings and their root causes. The content of the course is closely aligned with the SARG (Safety & Airspace Regulation) ‘Effective Problem Solving and Root Cause Identification’ guidance material which is expected to be published in January 2019.

Who should attend?

The course is suitable for participants from all areas of the aviation industry, but in particular Flight Operations, Airworthiness, Aerodromes, Air Navigation Service Providers and Regulatory organisations, all of whom will, from time to time, be required to provide effective solutions to complex problems.

The course is suitable for participants from all areas of the aviation industry, but in particular Airworthiness, Aerodromes, Air Navigation Service Providers, Flight Operations and Regulatory organisations.

Prerequisites

Ideally, broad experience in the aviation industry together with an open mind to new ideas.

Effective Problem Solving and Root Cause Identification

Marie is working for the UK CAA as an Airworthiness Surveyor responsible for the regulatory oversight of UK training, maintenance and airworthiness organisations. As a Human Factors (HF) and Safety Management Systems (SMS) specialist she is working closely with industry and other regulatory agencies. Marie represents the UK CAA at EASA rulemaking groups and acts as the Deputy Chair for the Royal Aeronautical Society Human Factors Group: Engineering. She holds a PhD in Human Factors in Maintenance and has many years of teaching experience on MSc HF and SMS programmes. Marie is involved in design and delivery of HF and Root Cause identification training courses for UK CAA and external organisations.
