Course Overview
Cyber threats don’t clock in and out — they’re constant, unpredictable, and evolving. Even a minor cyber breach can have significant consequences — disrupting operations, damaging brand reputation, and compromising customer trust.
This one-day course provides a high-level overview of aviation cybersecurity threats, threat actors and their motivations, common attack techniques, how cybersecurity contributes to aviation safety, ICAO’s approach to embedding cybersecurity in aviation, the regulatory landscape, and the UK’s approach to aviation cybersecurity.
This course is relevant to staff at all levels within an organisation and refers to ICAO standards and requirements and their application.
- Master cybersecurity principles in aviation
- Identify threat actors, their motivations, and attack techniques
- Analyse industry best practices in aviation cybersecurity
- Apply ICAO’s cybersecurity standards to aviation practices.
What is cybersecurity awareness?
Cybersecurity awareness involves educating all stakeholders — employees, contractors, and partners — about the potential cyber threats that can impact the aviation sector. This includes understanding the risks posed by hacking, data breaches, and system vulnerabilities that could disrupt operations, compromise sensitive information, or endanger safety. In an increasingly digital world, where aviation systems and data are interconnected, fostering a culture of vigilance and knowledge is crucial. It ensures that everyone is equipped to recognise and respond to cyber threats, thereby safeguarding the integrity of aviation operations, protecting passenger safety, and maintaining trust in the industry.
This course is suitable for and will support all staff across the aviation community, from organisations of all sizes.
This course will also provide support and guidance to International delegates as the majority of the requirements stem from ICAO, with a section on the UK application of ICAO requirements.
By the end of this course, through presentation and interactive discussion, delegates will demonstrate:
- A greater understanding of the application of cybersecurity in aviation.
- Understanding of threat actors, their motivations and common attack techniques
- Understanding of how cybersecurity contributes to aviation safety
- A broad knowledge of ICAO’s standards and requirements for cybersecurity in aviation
- Understanding how the UK applies ICAO requirements to embed cyber security
- A broad knowledge of best practices across the industry relating to cybersecurity.
This training course will include the following topics:
- Cybersecurity definitions and terminology
- CIA and DAD triads
- Cybersecurity threats to aviation
- Threat actors and their motivations
- Common attack methods
- The regulatory and compliance landscape and ICAO requirements
- The role of the Regulator
- The UK’s approach to aviation cybersecurity.
