In partnership with ICAO and Airbus Operations Ltd, CAAi was tasked to deliver theoretical and practical Safety Assessment of Foreign Aircraft (SAFA) training in the Dominican Republic.
The delivery of the SAFA training is part of “the safety oversight improvement project” of the ICAO North American, Central American and Caribbean office with the participation of 23 experts representing 15 States (including the OECS) and one Regional Safety Oversight Organisation. The training was sponsored by Airbus.
Led by CAAi instructor, the training for 23 delegates was conducted using theoretical delivery, facilitated discussion and case studies to reinforce the learning. Practical learning was delivered using an out-of-service aircraft.
The SAFA ramp inspection programme is aimed at assessing the level of compliance with the ICAO standards of foreign airlines operating in a country and increase the overall safety level of airlines by requiring correction and prevention of identified discrepancies with ICAO standards. The SAFA programme requires national aviation authorities to have a team of trained and authorised inspectors to perform the ramp inspections on aircraft for compliance with Community and International safety standards. Aircraft are selected for inspection in a non-discriminatory manner and the inspection should not cause undue delay to the departure of the aircraft.
