The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and CAA International (CAAi) have announced a new memorandum of understanding that will see both parties collaborate on ICAO implementation support programmes.

Formalised during the first day of ICAO’s Global Implementation Support Symposium in Istanbul, the new agreement facilitates both parties to jointly develop and deliver new ICAO Implementation Packages (“iPacks”) in various regulatory fields. The agreement also supports the exchange of Subject Matter Expertise, technical assistance and capacity-building projects and programmes.

Speaking after the MoU signing, Maria Rueda, Managing Director at CAAi, commented:

“We are delighted to have signed this agreement, and we will look forward to working with ICAO to improve aviation standards around the world. As global aviation continues its recovery from the pandemic, it is essential that Member States worldwide have the necessary support and guidance to help air transport rebound safely and sustainably in accordance with ICAO’s Standards and Recommended Practices.”

This agreement builds on previous cooperation between both parties. In 2021, CAAi was awarded corporate partnership on ICAO’s TRAINAIR Plus programme and has since launched four training courses under the programme. In 2019, CAAi delivered a capacity-building project on behalf of ICAO to strengthen the Sierra Leone CAA’s safety oversight capability.
