What is a Safety Management System?
A Safety Management System (SMS) within an organisation provides a systematic approach to managing safety. For an SMS to be effective, there must be the necessary organizational structures, accountabilities, responsibilities, policies and procedures. An effective SMS should enable an organization to identify hazards, assess risks and can be the mechanism to continuously improve safety performance.
Course Overview
Senior managers have a vital role to play in safety management. Although senior managers may not be directly involved with an organisation’s Safety Management System (SMS), without the full support of senior management filtering down from the top, an organisation may not be able to deliver the value and benefits of an effective SMS. So how can you lead on safety management?
This 1.5 hour e-learning course has been designed specifically to help senior managers understand their role and responsibilities in the SMS.
This course is suitable for an accountable managers and nominated post holders (Form 4 holders) working in the Aviation Industry.
This training course will include the following topics:
- High level overview of a Safety Management System
- The value of having an ‘effective’ SMS in place
- The importance of encouraging a ‘positive safety culture’
- The legal implications of not having an effective SMS
By the end of this course delegates will be able to demonstrate an understanding of:
