In June, CAA International (CAAi) delivered a 2-day Advanced Safety Management Systems (SMS) training course and a 3-day On-the-Job (OJT) training in Bogota for the inspectors at Aeronautica Civil Colombia.

The course focused on advanced SMS principles and how to evaluate SMS effectiveness. The course was complemented with OJT carried in several industry organisations to enhance the practical experience. The aim of this delivery was to provide delegates with sufficient skills, competence and confidence so that they are capable of assessing an organisation’s safety performance.

The course was delivered by CAAi Senior Technical Advisor, Simon Roberts. Commenting on the importance of having an effective SMS for aviation organisations, Simon Roberts said, “It is essential that the SMS is not only in existence, but it is also operating effectively, making the aviation safe for people and benefiting the organisation. It was my pleasure delivering the training for the inspectors at Aeronautica Civil Colombia and I would like to thank all the industry organisations that we visited, allowing us to demonstrate practical applications of SMS.”

Upon the course delivery, a delegate from Aeronautica Civil Colombia said: “The visits to the different organisations as part of the OJT were the most valuable and I am looking forward to using the knowledge and skills during my next SMS audit”
