In June, CAA International (CAAi) delivered a four-day Ramp Inspection – Safety Assessment of Foreign Aircraft (SAFA) training with five days of On-the-Job (OJT) training for Flight Operations and Airworthiness delegates from Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA). The purpose of this training was to help SCAA qualify delegates as Ramp Inspection Inspectors.
The training followed the requirements of European Commission Regulation (EU) No 965/2012 and was performed in line with EASA Ramp Inspection Manual Issue 1. The training was complemented with OJT inspections to facilitate the practical experience. The programme was designed to provide delegates with the necessary skills, competence and confidence to enable them to conduct ramp inspections on foreign registered aircraft. Seven delegates completed all the training elements and are now eligible to become SCAA Ramp Inspectors once their internal competence assessments have been successfully performed.
The training was delivered by CAAi Senior Technical Advisor, Colin Greenwood and UK CAA SAFA Inspector, Alvis Peka. Commenting on the success of the course, Colin Greenwood said: “It was our great pleasure to meet the SCAA team and help them achieve another milestone towards aviation safety oversight in Seychelles. We hope that the training will help to continue improving the SAFA inspections in the region.”
Upon the training delivery, Capt. Michael Johnson, SCAA Head of Flight Operations and Flight Crew Licensing Safety Regulation said: “The on-site ramp training delivered by CAAi was the most efficient and cost-effective solution to aligning Seychelles aviation safety oversight with international standards. This has enabled SCAA to comply with its ICAO obligation to monitor the safety of national and foreign operators.”
