International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO)
CAAi is fully committed to supporting ICAO’s strategic objectives, complementing the UK CAA’s wider cooperation with ICAO.
We assist ICAO in ensuring No Country is Left Behind by supporting fellow Member States with the effective implementation of ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs), ensuring that SARP implementation is harmonised around the world so that all States develop a safe, secure, sustainable and reliable air transport system. Aligned with this, we are founding members and actively prioritise our contribution to ICAO’s Aviation Safety Implementation Assistance Partnership (ASIAP), helping to coordinate and standardize efforts amongst all contributors to beneficiary States.
In 2017, ICAO signed a training cooperation agreement with the UK CAA to support its No Country Left Behind initiative. Under the agreement, CAAi (as a Social Enterprise) provides places on its training courses free-of-charge, to aviation personnel from eligible designated Member States, to help enhance the regulatory capability in developing countries. Other training initiatives have included CAAi sponsored experts to deliver Aerodrome Certification training to 14 African countries, along with similar for the SE Asia region to be delivered autumn 2018.
Routinely, CAAi provide experts to ICAO seminars and workshops around the world in support of key initiatives including Risk Based Surveillance and State Safety Programmes. The Next Generation of Aviation Professional (NGAP), an ICAO led initiative promoting the development of skilled aviation professional for the future, is something very close to our heart. Through the activities of CAAi as a Social Enterprise, we encourage (across the schooling system in the UK) young people to consider carers in aviation and sponsor efforts to promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths).
